Mr A Austin It is with deep sadness that we have been informed of the death of Mr Arthur Austin. Arthur was a prominent member of the club having been a member of the committee for many years. Arthur was also an excellent swimmer having won the 1/4 mile championship in 1958. Our thoughts and condolances are with Arthurs family.

Club History
For the 2nd time this year we have been contacted regarding swimming records from the early years of the club. This time we have received details of the winner of the 1890 Maiden Handicap event which was won by Thomas Hughes Spencer.
To date, this is the earliest record that we have since the club was formed in 1885. The club would like to express it’s sincere thanks to Mr. Steve Spencer, the great nephew of Thomas who has generously contacted the club with the information.
City of Liverpool Sprints 28th June 2009 The following SHSC swimmers recently took part in the City of Liverpool Sprint Championships week ending 28th June 2009.
Jonathan Dandy Alice Harrison Nathan Coy
Jonathon Dandy earned a silver medal in the 11 year boys 50m Fly and a PB in the 50m free. Alice Harrison achieved a PB in the girls 50m Fly, with Nathan Coy also swimming well achieving Long Course PB times. The weekend was very hot and tiring but all the swimmers enjoyed themselves.
Club Documents rescued from Attic April 2009 Minutes of meetings dating from 1894 have been found and have generously been handed to St.Helens SC. The 3 books include lists of committee members, financial records, competition results, comments on competitions etc. and give an excellent insight into the sport during the first part of the last century. The information is being examined in more detail and extracts will be published on the website. Please contact the club should you wish further details. |
