Christmas 2011/2012 Pool Closure update

The pool is now open. Club training will commence as normal from Tuesday 3rd January 2012.

 

SWIM21

St Helens swimming club has successfully retained its swim21 accreditation for 2011/12. This also enables the club to use the ‘clubmark’ logo recognising the ongoing progress of the club.

 

Tadpole competition update

Our 12yrs and under swimmers have once again supported this very competitive competition producing some excellent swims. Elizabeth Hurst gained a gold pennant for her magnificent swim in the 50m butterfly. Elizabeth also earned a silver pennant for her excellent 2nd place in the 50m backstroke. 2011-12 M&D Gala update

St.Helens has had an excellent start to this years league winning both the opening galas. The September gala held at St.Helens was very competitive with St.Helens eventually winning the gala with 171 points. The results of the Knowsley gala which St.Helens also won is on the results page.

Percy Mason Trophy—Warrington

Latest news from the 2010 Tadpole Galas

Once again our swimmers have supported this excellent event with many personal best times being recorded. On the 17th September, Tom Coates produced an excellent swim to win a 3rd Place pennant. Not to be outdone, Charlotte Dodson also gained a 3rd place pennant in the 1st October gala. Click here for more news. Full results are on the Results and Records page.

 

St.Helens narrowly beaten into 2nd place in the Prestige Gala

B&D Mini-league final 2010

Our swimmers put in some excellent performances in the recent B&D mini-final for the 12’s and under but could not regain the title the won 2 years ago. Read more >>>>>

 

National League (NW) Draw

St Helens has entered the National League North West

125 Year Celebration Gala

B&M Championships

9th & 10th January 2010

Alice Harrison & Courtney Dodson have recently competed in the B&M Championships at the Manchester Aquatic Centre, both achieving excellent results. Click HERE for more information.

 

Club Secretary

At the agm in December, Michelle Rogers has been appointed the new Club Secretary. Michelle has 2 daughters who are regular swimmers at the club. All at St.Helens SC wish Michelle all the best in her new roll.

 

Rescue Award

29th October 2009

Congratulations to Shaun & Alex Woodward both of whom have gained the National Rescue Award for Swimming Coaches & Teachers, awarded by the Royal Life Saving Society.

 

Mr A Austin

It is with deep sadness that we have been informed of the death of Mr Arthur Austin. Arthur was a prominent member of the club having been a member of the committee for many years. Arthur was also an excellent swimmer having won the 1/4 mile championship in 1958. Our thoughts and condolances are with Arthurs family.

 

Club Team Selection

October 2009

To be eligible to compete in club team galas & club championships, attendance at club training sessions is required with a minimum attendance of 3 per month. The committee considered this an integral part of team building in preparation for club galas. Swimmers will of course be able to represent the club in all individual competitions irrespective of attendance.

 

Bolton & District ‘Mini League’ Final

Sunday 11th October 2009

 

Once again the final was a closely fought contest with St.Helens, last years winners, eventually surrendering the trophy to Hindley SC. Click HERE for more information.

Swimmers & Staff meet World Champion

3rd October 2009

                          Two swimmers (Alice Harrison & Courtney Dodson) and two coaches (Shaun Woodward & Shaun Dodson) from St.Helens SC were invited by Swim Northwest to the Liverpool Aquatic Centre to have a day's coaching by Great Britain Swimmer Kerri-Ann Payne, current World Champion and Olympic Silver medal winner (10km Open Water Swim). Club History

 

For the 2nd time this year we have been contacted regarding swimming records from the early years of the club. This time we have received details of the winner of the 1890 Maiden Handicap event which was won by Thomas Hughes Spencer.

 

To date, this is the earliest record that we have since the club

was formed in 1885.

The club would like to express it’s sincere thanks to

Mr. Steve Spencer, the great nephew of Thomas who has

generously contacted the club with the information.

 

City of Liverpool Sprints

28th June 2009

The following SHSC swimmers recently took part in the City of Liverpool Sprint Championships week ending 28th June 2009.

 

Jonathan Dandy      Alice Harrison         Nathan Coy

 

Jonathon Dandy earned a silver medal in the 11 year boys 50m Fly and a PB in the 50m free. Alice Harrison achieved a PB in the girls 50m Fly, with Nathan Coy also swimming well achieving  Long Course PB times.  The weekend was very hot and tiring but all the swimmers enjoyed themselves.

 

Club Documents rescued from Attic

April 2009

Minutes of meetings dating from 1894 have been found and have generously been handed to St.Helens SC.

The 3 books include lists of committee members, financial records, competition results, comments on competitions etc. and give an excellent insight into the sport during the late 19th and early 20th century.

The information is being examined in more detail and extracts will be published on the website.
